New Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan

On April 25, was held an event dedicated to the upcoming referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Maxim Vladimirovich Goncharov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Digital Transformation of the USLU named after V.F. Yakovlev, delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of our University.

The honorary guest of the event was the Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Yekaterinburg Abdusalom Kurbonovich Khatamov.

Abdusalom Kurbanovich said that the new Constitution of Uzbekistan involves updating the current Basic Law by 65%. The draft of the new Constitution has been developed taking into account the wishes of the population of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The number of articles will be increased from 128 to 155, and constitutional norms from 275 to 434.

Among the amendments: granting citizens the right to secrecy of correspondence, prohibition of the death penalty and extradition of Uzbek citizens to a foreign state, gender equality, protection of family, children and youth.

The state will undertake more commitments aimed at reducing poverty and unemployment, as well as creating social, economic, legal and other conditions for the full development of the family.

Igor Yurievich Ostapovich, Doctor of Law, Professor of the Department of Constitutional Law of USLU, addressed the audience with his video message. He gave an expert assessment of the draft of the new Constitution.

The meeting was attended online by the heads of Tashkent State Law University (Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan) and Karakalpak State University named after Berdakh (Nukus, Republic of Uzbekistan).

► Professor of the Department of Human Rights, State Law and Management, Doctor of Law Kutybaeva Elizaveta Duysenbaevna.

The event was attended by students of USLU from the Republic of Uzbekistan, including students studying at the Institute of Law and Entrepreneurship under the network program «International Commercial Law», as well as students from Ural Federal University and Ural State University of Economics. The students were told where they would be able to exercise their active suffrage on the territory of the city of Yekaterinburg.

The moderator of the event was the Head of the International Cooperation Department, Doctor of Law, Kozubenko Yuri Vyacheslavovich.
