The USLU scientific library is the same age as the University. Over the years, the library has become one of the city's largest legal literature repositories.

The Scientific Library collection consists of information materials in various formats: printed, electronic. The library's collection includes 823,207 copies of documents (as of 01.01.2017), it is diversified in nature. It includes:

The main stock (scientific) is a part of the unified library stock, which is the bulk of the documents, received over all the years of the library's activity. It is formed in accordance with the curriculum and directions of research activities.

Educational Stock – a specialized subsidiary stock of subscriptions, which presents educational and methodological publications recommended by the University departments to ensure the educational process.

A subsidiary stock is a part of a single stock organized in reading rooms. It contains official, reference, scientific publications, and industry periodicals.

Journal Stock – a stock of periodical and continuing publications.

The electronic library of USLU is a part of the scientific library and is a complex of e-documents. The electronic library of SL includes electronic library systems, electronic libraries, electronic databases of periodicals, electronic library of own generation of SL of USLU, electronic books.

The pride of the scientific literature stock is a collection of rare books (about 6 thousand items). Here are collected books published from the end of the 17th century to 1917, among them 138 editions with signs of book monuments. Currently, some publications are included in the All-Russian Collection of Book Monuments. The Rare Books Stock includes lifetime editions of scientists’ works, books with identification marks of the Romanov house, books of the Demidov library, the Aleksandrovsky (Tsarskoye Selo) Lyceum, Alexander military law Academy, periodicals from the 18th to the early 20th century in Russian and foreign languages, etc.

The Structure of the USLU Scientific library has five departments: acquisition, cataloging, maintenance of educational literature, maintenance of scientific literature, reference and bibliography.

During the year, the Scientific Library serves about 9 000 readers. They can use educational and scientific subscriptions, specialized and electronic reading rooms, and an electronic library http://lib1.usla.ru.
